Plus Size Summer Clothes

When the weather warms up it is time to give your wardrobe an overhaul. For many the shedding of heavy layers is a joyous occasion. For others the idea of shopping for plus size summer clothes is anxiety inducing. The key to successful summer wardrobe shopping is knowing what looks good on you and what doesn't. The last thing anyone should do is try to disguise their body under shapeless sweats and T-shirts. No matter what your size is you can find items with fashionable details and flattering tailoring to suit your shape.


One figure flattering ensemble that you may want to try is the floaty cotton skirt with ribbed layered tanks. This Bohemian look is perfect with a pair of flirty sandals and a pretty pedicure. If you're not comfortable baring your arms you may want to cover up with a sheer top in a coordinating shade. Another trend that is hot for summer are capri pants. These are great for plus sized women because they offer more leg coverage without being full pants. Knit tops are perfect to pair with capris. If your capris are legging style you will want a top that adequately covers the backside and thigh area.

Summer clothes should be made from breathable fabrics like cotton and cotton blends. For the office you may want to go for silky blends and tailored suits in pastel colors and prints. Then you will also want clothes for those days you are hanging around the house or having a casual lunch with friends. Your wardrobe should be a lot of mix and match pieces that go well with each other. This allows you to make lots of different outfits out of a few key pieces. When choosing colors go for neutral pieces that can be paired with brights and patterns for a pop of color. Neutral shades go with almost everything and include black, white, navy and tan.

Perhaps the hardest part of shopping for plus size summer clothes is buying a swimsuit. The majority of the time plus size women should go for one piece suits. The exception to this would be a tasteful two piece on a plus size woman who felt comfortable baring her midsection. If you've got a toned midsection which some plus size women do then by all means go for a two piece. If you don't there are all kinds of one piece suits designed to be slenderizing. A pretty sarong is the perfect coverup at poolside or even the beach. At specialty plus size stores like Lane Bryant you will find great swimsuits made especially for plus sized figures.
